The face goes to 160kmh, which would be appropriate for an R51 or R66. The die cast case looks like the one in my R12, which I always assumed was a more modern unit, so maybe it is original, unlike a lot of the other parts on my R12...

Speedo

Post by Bigsieuk »

Came with a R12 headlight shell I bought. I think it needs a new drive, it came with a repro 120 kph face. I don't need it as I think the speedo I have on the bike already is genuine, I need to check.

Be nice to know if it is a genuine BMW speedo. Anyone taken one apart before?

Thanks for the responses.

Regards,

John

Speedo

Post by speight1823 »

Did you find out what bike this is from? M72?
I wonder if the parts would fit a war time BMW shell ? Maybe with a few mods.
I ask the question as I have a pile of wartime shells and a few parts.
I have enough parts for one speedo but need 2.
All the best

Speedo

Post by Bigsieuk »

It seems to fit in the shells I have on both my R12's. I've looked for pictures of original R12 shells but no success so far. Could you email me some photos of the ones you have?

If your shells are original and you're looking for speedo maybe we could do something? As far as I know it's post war GDR manufactured in former E Germany.

Attached are photos of a non R12 shell I bought believing it to be original.

Regards
