Frode, I believe the stand

Post by Ian R11 »

Frode,

I believe the stand and battery tray with the spring mount are the same on S4 and S5 but unsure if any of this other information about mine will help.

The “tang” to operate the stand on mine sits into a depression under the left silencer preventing the stand touching the frame. As you can see the spring is very close to the frame but not touching in both up and down stand positions. The foot of the stand comes close but does not touch the frame when up. The “tang” on my stand is not original, the original being broken off many years ago and lost.

It is not unusual to have to make alterations to new items bought for any of these machines, my silencers had the mount brackets lengthened and then also spaced away from the frame.

My guess is your stand should be stopped from hitting the frame probably with the operating “tang” contacting the underside of the tail pipe. The stand feet (if allowed) would just pass equally each side of the frame before catching on the frame sides.

Hi!

See photos of my test assembly.
- I'm worried that the stand is too close to the ground
- If I put on longer spacers between the frame and exhaust to get it higher up, I think it becomes unnaturally large distance. It suits neither particularly well ...
- Can there be an opportunity to try narrow the stand to get it closer to the frame.
- Attached for spring between the battery holder and stand will not fit when the exhaust system gets too close frame ..

Should I just accept it as it is, or what do you think I should try?

Regards, Frode

Your stand looks like a new manufacture and possibly over wide compared to mine. Mine measures 250mm across the widest part of the feet, and 200mm internal across the feet. What does yours measure?

Post by Ian R11 »

I think the extra width you have on the stand feet are the problem. The photo’s of mine show the feet in relation to frame when stand is up. The stand does not ground in this position when riding the bike.

The stand is very close to my silencers but you should have more room with smaller diameter tailpipes. Your photo looks to show enough room for it to fit.

Do you have the rear footrests? The footrest would act as a spacer of approx 20mm. Looking again at my silencer, it would locate on the same fixing as the footrest and not need the spacer. Sometimes I do not see the wood for the trees!
