Daytona Bike (Trailer) Week 2016

Post by stagewex »

Starts today. I'm leaving from New York in a few hours to pick up a friend and his bike and will probably drive straight-thru the night, all night. About 18 hours. Brought the r60/2 last year but really didn't see too many old machines. This year I understand there is a Sidecar and Vintage Rally next Thursday. If anyone whats to get together pm me. Our plan after after the obligatory Bike Week vendor and shopping is to ride, ride, ride. And go to the Daytona 200 next Saturday which reverts to the 1000cc class again. Should be great.
This time I'll be riding a K75 and giving the r60 a break.

Last year somewhere in Georgia:

Looks like you were running

Looks like you were running your rear springs for a pillion last year. Have a passenger or just like the stiffer ride?

Never been to Daytona but it sounds like fun. Hope you guys have a blast. You better let us live vicariously through you with some great pics of your K75 cruising Daytona!

Cheers!

No passenger. Just better for

No passenger. Just better for me and the bike with my 225-230lbs. of lard riding on it.

Really a night and day experience between last year bringing the r60/2 and this year a 1995 K75. Like walking through a worm hole into the future. I never could have done the type of riding I did this year with the /2. Especially keeping up with my riding buddies on an r1200rt and a Yamaha FZ1. The K bike is so smooth, easy and powerful. I must have demo'd over 50 different bikes of every brand. Just a few stuck in my head as something I might be interested in (HD VROD, Ducati, Indian Dark Horse). For the rest they could not compare to how comfortable and easy it is to ride, maneuver and just enjoy this 21 year old Flying Brick. Just put brand-new Metzler's on before I left so that also made a big difference as well as a major tune-up.

Daytona marks the beginning of the new racing season so I made a point of going to as many as possible at the newly refurbished Speedway. A lot of the Pirates Of The Caribbean crowd actually don't know how or why bike week started. But it's all fun and this being my 4th trip there it was the best. Missed the 200 because we left the day before. Maybe next year.
