Inserting the engine into the frame...

Post by Darryl.Richman »

Put the bike frame on its’ center stand.

Prop up the front wheel so the bike does not wobble back and forth.

Remove the coils to gain clearance. Note what wires go where for reassembly.

Measure the distance from the center of the engine mounting bolt hole on the frame to whatever the frame is sitting on (say a bike lift).

Measure the distance from the engine mounting bolt hole center to the bottom of the pan.

From this, determine how much material will be needed to put on the bike lift (which will be under the engine) so that when the engine is slid into the frame the engine sits on this material so the mounting bolt holes line up with the frame engine mounting bolt holes.

Use wood or other appropriate material on the lift to go under the engine pan so that it is supported properly.

Cover the bike’s frame so as to not scratch the frame. Use rags, tape, rubber pieces or perhaps make a cover from the same stuff doctors use to make a cast. Form it over rags on the frame and wait for it to dry. Make it so it can be removed and it can be used again and again. Nice.

Take the oil pressure sending unit off the engine so it is not in the way.

With the engine on the left side of the frame, tilt the top of the engine to the left and slip it into the frame onto the supports that you previously put under the frame.

Install the oil pressure sending unit and the engine mounting bolts.

Install the coils.
