The Mighty Vincents

Post by macfly »

This year there was an amazing selection of Vincents on display, including the legendary Bonneville Speed Record bike famously ridden to 150mph by an almost naked Rollie Free in 1948.

This just completed Falcon "Black" Vincent by Ian Barry was given its first public showing today at the Quail, and I feel sure that it is destined to become a legend as well. It is without a doubt one of the most stunning specials I have ever laid my eyes on.

There were several other immaculate and exquisite Vincents scattered through out the assembled magnificence, which you can see here.

This wonderful NorVin/Egli style cafe racer was in the process of being created by a Vincent restoration specialist shop in Colorado.

As always Ducati made a very strong showing, with some lovely round case 750SS & Sports on display.

Last but not least the incredible Laverdas...

Post by macfly »

Back when I was a crazy kid these were the bikes that I rode all over England. I had a whole sucession of them, and though they aren't as known or loved in the USA, they were THE bike in the UK in the late seventies. Back then and there nobody wanted a Ducati 900SS, we all wanted the mighty Laverda Jota, the first true 140mph production motorcycle. This first one is one of the last of the venerable 180º cranshaft models, and one of the most desirable in my book.

The Quail Motorcycle event, 2011

Post by Darryl.Richman »

As usual the Quail put on one of the very best bike events in the land. Sadly due to pressures at work I was only able to pop up for the Saturdays festivities, but here is what I saw.

Starting with BMW since we're a BMW site, I'm happy to report that we were better represented than pretty much any other marque this year, with some simply stunning machines from the deep past to more recent classics. There were no R90S's on display this year, but there was one out in the parking area, along with some other really nice BMW's so I added those in here too. I'm thinking that maybe I'll enter mine next year. :D

The Quail assembles the most wonderful selection of machines, so that fans of almost every kind of two wheeler can find loads to enjoy.
