I use two o rings and check them frequently. I haven't gotten ambitious enough to do the drill and zip tie them yet or at least the right one, LOL. St.

I have never used the o-ring system but instead have a piece of string that holds the two side together. I used my Boy Scout skills and used a tautline knot which has worked for many years!

For the right side cover, I didn't see the need to drill any holes. I ended up using a small size zip tie around the frame and around the hook molded into the inside of the cover. IIRC Matt Parkhouse suggested placing small strips of Velcro in the appropriate spots for some extra hold.

Boy Scouts and taking typing class with the girls in high school have served me well over the years!!

I can’t tie a decent knot to save my life! I get my shoelaces in knots when I try to take them off, but not on purpose.
I tried finding small bungee cords for the top of the side covers, but couldn’t find any that I liked enough to actually trust them. So, on the right side cover, I drilled another 3/16 inch hole on the leading edge at the top of the cover and will wire tie that also. These covers are NOT cheap, and the work involved in painting them is not really easy, (if you’re not rattle canning them) and I don’t want to risk losing any more of these puppies. These ain’t coming off without cutting them off!
Problem solved.
Thanks again!

Yeah, I found out just how expensive it can be to paint bits of BMW body work. My last paint guy after getting done told me, "next time I will charge a lot more money".

Rattle can, yes, for a bog jumper road salt winter ratbike, but not a R90S. St.
