38mm Dellorto Pumper carbs

Post by rd400f »

Hi
I need suggestions on how to remove the carb insulation bushings as show as part number 4 on parts list.
Carb bushing.JPG
You can see on my carbs one is stuck in along way and one is almost out.
I want to put these in an ultrasonic cleaner so I am thinking I must remove these
plastic bushings first.

But how?

Also where can you get rebuild kits for these 38mm pumper Dellorto's

Thanks
Richard

Have you tried a penetrant? Time and soaking may help somewhat.

As far as I can tell, Max BMW lists parts as well as Boxer two valve for rebuild. Delorto is still in business if I recall. St.

Hi
Thanks for the info.

I have ordered replacement sleeves and other parts.
But what about replacement float bowls?
This is from the Eurocarb site.

"There are 2 versions on the PHF/PHBE/PHM float bowl, the choice is determined by the float bowl nut.
p/n 7881 Uses nut part number 8551 & 9676 with a 14 or 17mm spanner size"

Mine are the 17mm size and Eurocarb say that they are no longer made.
Plus the p/n 10557 Uses nut part number 10238 with a 21mm spanner size , that is available, will not fit.

Suggestion as to replacements for the 1974 R90S PHM float bowl with 17mm nut ?

Thanks
Richard

BMW never did activate a new part number for the new replacement bowl.
But they did active the larger nut and crush washer for whatever reason.
So, you would need the new larger nut crush washer, and you will have to source the bowl from Bevel Heaven, here in the USA.
You need to go here:
https://www.bevelheaven.com/stuff-for-sale-dellorto.htm
They show the new replacement bowl, their part number is dellorto 10557 Which uses, (I believe) the new larger nut and crush washer. see the photo above.

Hi
Thanks for helping with this.

What I wanted to do was swap out the old 17mm nut style bowls and nuts for the new 21mm style bowls and nuts.

Eurocarb replied..."Unfortunately there isn't an available replacement float bowl for that carburettor, my apologies.
The 10557 isn't suitable due to the difference in the float bowl nut size"

So are you saying that if I change to the 21mm nuts then the 21mm style float bowls will fit my old carb bodies?
Thanks
Richard

An unrelated question about the 38mm Dell'Ortos on the R90S:

I've seen photos of early, 1974 R90S Dell'Ortos with angled elbows at the top cap of the carbs. However, many later R90S
don't seem to have the elbows attached.

I'm looking at a low mileage 1975 R90S and the carbs don't have any angled elbows on the top caps. Is this correct for the model year or have they been removed for easier adjustment (Ducati-style)?

Bevelheaven sells angled elbows but not sure what the correct angle should be for these carbs and model year?
