R90s basket case rebuild

Post by kimmsinger »

called by friend to help re-assemble basket case R 90s
Question is: When do you attach the final drive to the transmission. Before or after mounting the engine to frame?

Do you mean attaching the driveshaft to the transmission? The final drive is typically bolted to the driveshaft tube/housing. The driveshaft that is inside the tube/housing has a flange and four holes on the forward end. There are special bolts that go through those four holes to mate with the threaded holes on the output of the transmission.

Typically, the engine is already in the frame with the engine mount bolts to do this.

FYI to make thing easier, mount the rubber boot for the transmission/swing arm onto the swing arm first before installing the swing arm. I mean do the boot first while you have room to see how it mounts and can get at it. St.
