It will soon be time to buy a new exhaust for my 1975 R90S. Searching the internet is driving me crazy.

Stainless Steel? Chrome? Hoske? I want to keep it period specific. What do you recommend? Where do you suggest I buy it from? How much should I expect to spend?

Thanks
chuck

I think Stainless Steel is

I think Stainless Steel is always the best....there for, maybe the most expensive too. I would budget $1000 for exhaust, new head gaskets to exhaust, new flanges (collars), new bolts, hangers. And maybe $100 for shipping. And if you get away with less than that, you did good.

Unless you're looking forward to a 99.5 point score at the Pebble Beach concours, I'd agree with Twocams---stainless steel. His budget figure is probably pretty close, and you want Keihan stainless exhaust bits. Tom Cutter at Rubber Chicken Racing offers them.

I finally broke down and got the Keihan SS high flow exhaust. As much as I like the black exhaust its going to take awhile to get used to the chrome. With the black tail rack and luggage rack it looks kind of odd to me.

I may have made a mistake however with the high flow. These things sound great but they are LOUD.

Update on the exhaust .....

The high flow SS exhaust finally go to me. They sounded great in the parking lot but out on the road it reminded me of my V-Twin days with loud Vance and Hines straight pipes.

Luckily, the guy who sold them to me had another bike he was building and was able to swap out the cans. Soooooo much better. Loud enough to hear the roar when you twist the throttle but quiet enough to ride all day. Im so much happier with the standard exhaust.
