Vintage BMW Motorcycle Owners

The clock on my R90S is off by 15 minutes every week. Is there anything you can do to adjust the rate of time on the clock? Its hardly an issue but I thought I would ask. Thanks

I remember back in the old days clocks of this vintage. They had a screw on the back with F----S on the outside case. For slow and fast.
But of course I dont know if these do or not.

Just rode my newly acquired 1975 R90S home from the shop and got it in the my garage! However, after I set the clock to the correct time, I noticed the second hand stopped working, leaving the time stuck at where I set it.

The clock worked prior to this ... in the shop and when I got it home. It was just set incorrectly. I can still hear it ticking but the hour, minute, and second hands don't move now.

Did I mess something up when setting the time - pressing the knob inwards and rotating clockwise to set the time?

Are you sure that the stem has popped back out after pushing in for time setting?

I had to push the knob in whilst turning it to set the clock. It was very awkward to do so. I can press the knob in and it comes back out. It won't stay in when pressed ... it pops right out when I take my finger off. Is it supposed to stay in when depressed?

No, I would think that when depressed, you engage the gears for changing. Then, letting it pop back out leaves it in run mode. I'm sure you've done it a few times, but I would try changing the time again and see if that might kick off.

I don't remember any slow or fast adjustment on the clocks I had for my 74 90S nor on any of the BMW factory clocks.

Yes, the adjustment knob should pop back out and the clock should start to run.

Now on my 84 RT, I have the original clock and it has been riding on the bike since new and 200k plus miles, it is sadly starting to show its age by stopping in cold weather and such. Over time despite my efforts against it, moisture got inside and when the bike is running and the light bulb is on, I get fog on the inside of the lens.

What does this have to do with anything in this post? Well, I have not taken the clock apart to see how gummed up things are from said moisture and repeated thaw and freeze plus just old age. It is just possible the clock in question at the begging post is just getting sticky or slow. Next time I have my clock out, I am going to try to give a small shot of contact cleaner into the bulb socket to see what happens. LOL, I do have a spare clock on hand just in case I ruin things.

Someone a while back posted on the internet a good write up about how to take them apart and repair them. Kurt, do you remember this? St.

Is there a conversion shop somewhere that can take the white-faced clock and upgrade it to quartz innards for reliable running?
