Lightbulb For Speedometer ?

Post by Motorman2061 »

Howdy R90Sers,
Had my R90S out for the first time tonight. Noticed on the way home from a restaurant that
The bulb for the speeddo was out.
Anyone have the pleasure of replacing a bulb ?
If so is it a real pain ???
Thanks much in advance.

you have to remove the entire speedo/tach housing.
disconnect both tach and speedo cables
loosen (do not remove) 3 speedo/tach mounting screws (10mm usually)
as you start to lift up on housing, remove the electrical plug on the back. If there's a philips screw, you can remove it
place the housing on a workbench and remove the rear covers. You'll need to remove 2 covers to get to the circuit board.
It uses a flexible circuit board like a car, so remove the bulb holders and replace.

This provide a good visual to get to the bulbs...by photo 3 I think you're there so that the bulb holders can be removed.

In reference to the flexible circuit board, I'm not sure if it's been discussed here...I think so though. Actually, Rick you brought it up!! An Airhead owner and her husband have produced a replacement for this that uses LEDs. The original circuit is no longer available, so have an aftermarket solution when you need it.

Thanks so much for the info on the LED lighting for the instrument cluster.
May wait for something else to fail before I order that part, but who knows?
