Something interesting is coming .. 163

Post by Ericandchi »

Hi all,

This is my first post and i'm not sure how active this forum is. But I figure I might start with something interesting to wet a few appetite.

... The subject is the clue.

Glacial

Post by Slash2 »

If I had to choose a single word to describe the "activity level" or pace of this forum, it would be glacial. But hey, it's better than no pace at all!

That would appear to be Reg Pridmore's AMA winning Butler & Smith R90s... Can I have it please?

"I used to ground the heads a lot but the handling was OK with some suspension changes. If you hit something down on another bike it would pick up the front end and usually throw you away. A lot of times the BMW gave warning signs of lifting, then it would come back. I didn't fall off them a lot."

Amazing discovery!

I would have to think BMWNA

Post by cadcap2 »

I would have to think BMW, Butler & Smith or Reg Pridmore kept the genuine article...could it be a replica racer?

The picture shows a bolt on

Post by Matteo »

The picture shows a bolt on seat subframe. My recollection was that the race bike seat frame wasn't bolted on. The frame was different from the production bikes. Does anyone know if this is right?

The seat in Ericandchi's

Post by schrader7032 »

The seat in Ericandchi's picture looks like a stock R90S seat/cowl. Wouldn't the actual racing seat be much different, sort of like the one in the link showed by Dan?

Pridmore's seat...

A quick search produced the following images - both from 1976... The first one appears to show Pridmore riding #163 with the original seat and cowl - this bike also featuring the stock ATE calipers on undrilled discs, while the bike in second pic has what looks like an improvised seat hump fitted, and the front end is carrying what appear to be Lockheed Scarab calipers on fabricated mounts with bigger, drilled discs. Why the bike in the original post seems to have retained the former parts would be an interesting thing to know, but doesn't necessarily imply it's other than #163, albeit comprised of parts from an earlier race-bike iteration.
Note also the twin shock rear end.
