R90S Mirrors?

Post by jberzins »

Hello,
I found these in my shop and I seem to remember them being original R90S mirrors. However, I am not sure. I would appreciate any opinions. One is fully marked they other is not. Thanks much.

It's been a long time since

It's been a long time since my 90S ownerships, but I have a vague recollection that the curved-stem rearview mirrors were an R90S item. They may've morphed into unobtainium. I seem to remember seeing Kirk Lee, a restorer/flipper who has frequented the IBMWR site, asking for princely sums for them several years ago. Or maybe they're common as dirt---I don't really know. A call to one of the used parts sellers (Repsycle, etc.) may net you some useful info.

Thanks, it is funny but I know that term "unobtanium" my best friend and I used it to describe hard to find parts. I will look into Kirk Lee. I believe these are original, at least one of them and I know if they are they are VERY hard to find. I figured there would be some R90s fans that would know.

Mirrors

They look exactly the same as the originals on my March 1976 R90S, European version.

Yes, I can confirm you that

Yes, I can confirm you that they are the original ones (hard to find in good shape...!).
The black thin stem curved mirrors were mounted only on the R90S. The other models of the /6 series were fitted with mirror of the same shape , but chromed... (and someone paints in matt black these ones to fit his R90S... :) ).

Thank you, only one of them has a part number on it, at least that was what I remember. I no longer have an R90S so I imagine I will be selling these at some point. Any idea on value? Thanks again.

R-90 S mirrors

Post by bmwsog »

There are ways to determine originality. Shape and flat black paint are indicators. A real
give away indicator on original mirrors is the copper -based brass or bronze stem material. If a scratch
on the paint reveals copper colored base metal, its the real McCoy.

value

Post by jberzins »

Hello,
So someone has approached me about selling these. I am still having a hard time finding what the value is. They will need to be painted, but otherwise are in excellent shape. Any Ideas would be appreciated.
