Turning over engine ?

Post by rd400f »

Hi
What is the approved method for turning over the engine if the gearbox is removed and the engine is out of the frame.
Reason is to check that the pistons are not stuck.
Thanks
Richard

Plugs removed? If not stuck,

Plugs removed? If not stuck, the engine should turn easily with the allen wrench in the alternator rotor bolt. Otherwise, you could work with the bolts at the back of the clutch pack. Find a wrench to grab them or if necessary, remove one of them and reinstall a longer bolt that you can then use to grab onto.

Hi
Thanks for that.
Simple really and it worked a treat.
It is amazing that a full can of CRC Marine down the plug holes 20+yrs ago then tossed under a house
and today it still turns over sweet.
Thanks
Richard
