Be careful on this...I'm not

Post by schrader7032 »

Be careful on this...I'm not sure the wiring can handle a serious increase in wattage. Be sure and check to be sure that the old wiring will be fine.

As for parts, check the on-line fiche or call up one of the parts suppliers like Ted Porter at http://www.beemershop.com

/5 headlight renew

Post by kenrcruise »

Try looking at a supplier I have ordered the same from: www.parts-u-need.com. I measured my R60/2 headlight and found it the same as the /5 (check with me later and see if it fit). Price is reasonable: an H4 conversion kit for about $85, with a reflector, bulb and wiring.

/5 headlight renew; /2 upgrade to 12v

Post by kenrcruise »

I have received an email from parts-u-need. The /5 bucket is slightly larger (.5 cm) and has a rubber protection cap. I am looking into upgrading the /2 to 12 volts. Any ideas?

/5 H4 conversion......DO IT NOW!

Post by spo123 »

A used R65 headlight is a "stock" BMW part that will fit directly into a /5.
There are kits that are under $100.....however, the reflector and possibly the lens are PLASTIC......Genuine BMW replacements are expensive.....For that matter, so are USED R65 parts.
I did it myself.....The R65 headlamp RING is the same diameter, however it is a slightly different shape and has a different mounting assembly.
If careful of the H4 wattage, the /5 wiring can handle the amperage.....Still better is to use a RELAY and a separate main power FUSE.

Ah, if I only took the time to wire in the replacement harness and relay....Perhaps this year.

Dover White paint scheme

Post by kenrcruise »

I have a 1955 R50 project (lots of work!). My wife would like it to be Dover White. I do not have Jeff Dean's email to ask him. I already asked Tom Stafford, and he referred me to Jeff..

Jeff can probably be reached through the private message system here on the forum. Maybe he has a "contact me" link on his website:
