Leaking gear oil from breather

Post by dinsdale »

Greetings,

MY 73 R75/5 fell over in the driveway the other day.
No damage thanks to the crash bar.
However, when I went for a ride afterwards I noticed gear oil from the breather on the rear wheel drive had sprayed over the back wheel and tire. Is this just that the bike had fallen over and the oil had shuffled around and made its way out of the breather or could it be more of a seal problem.
Any info would be appreciated.
Many Thanks

I would think that this is just a passing problem...falling over may have resulted in some oil getting up where it shouldn't be and then, for whatever reason, got pushed out. I'd clean things up well and ride it again, maybe stopping somewhere just for a quick check. Continue to monitor the FD. Most likely, it's not a problem. Just make sure you have the proper amount of oil and grade...should be filled to the lower threads and generally a good 80w90 GL5 gear oil.

R75 Leak

Thanks Kurt.
Much appreciated.
I will check the level and take her for a spin to see what happens.
Great bike. I bought it about 6 months ago. Just a pleasure to ride.
I was looking for something around 1985, but when I found this one with 20,000 miles on it, I decide to buy it.

Thanks Again

Dave
