Oil slinging on rear wheel

Post by schrader7032 »

Bike model and year would help...although I don't have much experience with that kind of maintenance. But knowing the bike, we might be able to identify some on-line fiche and see what the seal is.

Another thing that you might look at, is the drain hole that should be in the final drive housing. It won't take care of the leak, but it might take some of that oil outside rather than getting all over the brakes. You should see a small hole on the outside of the drive just below the axle nut on the right side. Take a small piece of stiff wire and poke up through there. With the rear wheel off, see where that wire comes out. Clean any debris up.

Oil slinging on rear wheel

Post by VBMWMO »

Can anyone tell me what seal needs replacing in the final drive when you have oil all over the rear wheel? It has covered the wheel drum and the brakes aren't grabbing at all. I cleaned everything out previously but it has become saturated with what I susupect id final drive oil. Any suggestions?
