Dual socket

Autozone also has the dual contact pigtail part # 85801 $2.99
I did not use the upper insulator with the tab
Added 2 short pieces of heat shrink below insulator
Need 2 file off the 2 tabs on the bulb
Then with a pair of pliers squeeze the socket to make a snug fit, top part only you want the spring and contact plate to be free to move to make a good connection
Align the bulb contacts with the pins on the socket and push the bulb in
You can also add a zip tie to tighten the bulb to the socket

Added 5 more pics

Painted inside of lens holder with chrome metallic paint
Other pic show it working
I was using a 12 volt bulb and only had a 6 volt battery so the lights would be brighter if it was powered by a 12 volt source

If anybody does this let me know how it works for you
Not a bad upgrade for $2.99 and a little labor

Paint

No, the paint is not original. Not only is it not original its been spot painted so if its in the sun or bright light you can actually see multiple shades of black. It looks like the last guy who painted it painted it white then overshot it with black to get the white stripes. Everywhere the paint has chipped its white. The frame seems to be ok. All Im going to do is paint the fenders, tank, ears, headlight and shock tops. There is a local guy who hand pants the white stripes.

While the bike is apart Im going to go through as much as I can and clean it up. Good chance to look at all the bushings and seals. Good winter project.

Hey Tommy,
I think the best thing to do now is start a new "rebuild" post to reflect what Im doing. At best it will only be a partial restoration so look for a post called 1968 R60/2 Partial Restoration.

Thanks for the input guys. The striping is flaking off so Im going to remove it and get it taped later on. For now its going Matt or maybe a Satin finish. I found the bags locally here in Virginia from a guy who restores and works on these old bikes. I paid $500 for everything. They were not cheap but since they are the originals and in such good shape I went ahead and paid it. It won't coast much to get them looking good, just a lot of TLC. If they come out nice Im sure they will be worth every penny I have invested. They really fit my R60/2 well.

Just sold on ebay
Item # 23230461850
Yours look a lot better
$1905.00
