80/7 Front brake master cylinder.1977.Single disc.

Post by Doug. »

Hello.

I am having trouble with the above.
It leaks hydraulic fluid, yes it needs a repair or replacement.
I am unable to get a 'rebuild kit and a used "supposedly" rebuilt master cylinder is very expensive, about 400 dollars.
I have tried most dealers repair shops in Europe and they say the small cylinder (is it 14 m.m. ?) repair kit is unavailable (the bike being to old )
All I need is the hydraulic seals ,it is a single disc and has the small piston .
Please can any one help or advise me what to do or even have a spare set of the seals )

Thank you

Doug.

Just looked on Motobins

Just looked on Motobins website...they have the undertank master cylinder rebuild kit listed. I'd be pretty surprised that the kit is NLA. Some people go to the next step and convert to a handlebar master cylinder. Motobins has a kit to do that...but pretty expensive.

Strange that the website shows "In Stock"...can't trust the internet, huh?? Still, on other forums I visit mostly in the US, I recall multiple people mention they had rebuilt their master cylinder. I wonder where they got their parts.

You say you've visited repair shops. What about a BMW dealer? I'm still scratching my head to understand why such a common critical part would be NLA.

Master Cylinder.

Kurt.

Hello, I rebuilt the master cyl. some years past, I forgot when.
At the time there was no problem in obtaining the kit.
However I think that apart from a few specialist in old B.M 's most dealers do not wish to stock or obtain older spare parts..
I find no trouble what so ever in getting Triumph parts (1950 to 1980 )but some other makes spares are N.L.A.
I use Moto bins and Moto Werks when I need pieces but I suppose like any firm they occasionally do not have the parts on their shelves.
Possibly they will get the kits some time ?
I have found that B.M dealers FOR new motor cycles do not want to supply pieces for machines older then 15 to 20 years of age , But are most pleased to sell a new bike !!!
Many thanks for your messages and help, I shall keep trying !!!

Yours with best wishes.

Benchmark Works shows a kit

Benchmark Works shows a kit on their website:

http://www.benchmarkworks.com/ - 34311234926 master kit 14mm...kinda pricey at ~$175

Ted Porter shows a kit for 14mm and 17mm master cylinders ranging from $70 to 80:

http://www.beemershop.com

BMW Hucky also shows kits on his website:

http://www.bmwhucky.com/010034.html

Don't know about availability or about shipping to Europe.

So what's been the verdict...have you been able to find a kit? I've gotten more comments that generally any dealer can get the kit. Also someone suggested the S. Meyer site shows a kit:

http://www.meyer-bikes.de/index.php?pag ... 2/00000095

Listed here for 71.50 euros...it's a 17mm kit...might not be the right size, though.
