Re: EARLES VS US FORK

Another thing that no one mentioned, but is quite significant when it comes to telescopic vs the Earles Fork. With any telescopic front end, when you hit the brakes hard, the front end dives and the weight of the bike transfers forward, and the length from center line of axles front to rear becomes ...

Re: R51/3 center stand refurbishment

Take the center stand off completely. Set it aside. You weld the heavy wall tube between the ears of the FRAME not the center stand. You need not worry about the elongated holes in the ears of the FRAME. The tube will support the pin full length across the ears on the FRAME. You must take care to ge...

Re: R51/3 center stand refurbishment

A good, permanent fix, is to find a piece of heavy wall steel tubing, that the center stand pin slips nicely in, and cut it to the correct length, and WELD the tube, between the two center stand ears on the frame. This will support the pin full length, and you will never have any problems ever again...

Re: R69 ignition retard lever / correct magneto

Let me explain why and what the purpose of the lever is. For starters, it is a RETARD lever. The arrangement was used on the R68 and R69. It was used because the R68 and R69 were high compression engines and in many countries, that the bikes were exported or ridden into, gasoline was very poor, and ...

Re: R26 Kick Start Spring Replacement

There is no "easy" way to do it. Clamp the shaft of the segment gear in the jaws of a vice with copper vice jaws, so you do not mar the shaft. clamp it tight. using vice grips, get the straight shank of the spring in the hole of the shaft. Then using screwdrivers, lever the hooked end over...

Re: Rear Wheel Removal

If someone in the past, removed the final drive from the swing arm, and then re installed it, without putting the axle through the swing arm and final drive before tightening the four nuts that hold the final drive to the swing arm the axle can be extremely tough to remove. You see, there is a degre...

Thanks, Vech! That answers my question about where I got it.

Do you know if Zitzen is still in business, or who the vendor was?
Yes. Uli's Motorraden in Germany sells them. As far as I know they are still available.

Re: Zitzen H4 "Super" headlight wiring diagram?

ALL H-4 halogen bulbs have the same terminal connections. This photo is from the door of my shop, as a reference/reminder when I was working on customers bikes. Why the photo turned on it's side when posted, I don't know. Click on the photo and it turns upright. The drawing is viewing the bulb from ...

Re: Dual points for R69S (or any twin with magneto ignition)

Thanks Vech for detailed explanation. Can this be done with a Pentacomm plate? Yes, same procedure. The only thing a pentacomm plate does, is it forces you to change the point gap, via use of an allen wrench, to adjust the timing. Unlike the original set up, here is no movable breaker plate that the...

Re: Dual points for R69S (or any twin with magneto ignition)

And on the subject of dual points, in my opinion, there is NO need to do this, you would just be creating new problems and gain nothing. You know the K.I.S.S. principle... Keep It Simple, Stupid! There is absolutely nothing wrong with the magneto ignition, when you have a good coil, and most i...
