As I remember , the early ones had no down tube but in maybe even midyear 38, it was added?

I have a 1941 R-71. It has "matching" numbers and they were verified by BMW.

Sometimes the best money you can loose is on a plane ticket. I've even had honest people not realize that they were mis rpresenting something. Sometimes they don't know either. They 'assume" numbers match etc.

Ask for phone number and address. Call them. Ask for picture of title.

Interesting! I just checked my R-71 which came out of Germany and it was stamped OZ-74. My R-66 was sent to states and had no such stamping. Thanks!
