Re: R50 Running with battery disconnected

While a stock bike, with a stock 6v generator will run without a battery, if you do this too long there is a good chance you will ruin the old mechanical voltage regulator. If you simply want to run it without the battery in the circuit, peel back the brush springs, and lift the brushes off the arma...

Re: Sound File - what is making this sound?

Mal When the engine is running, you should put your finger over the end of the vent tube, and feel air coming out in a more or less continuous stream. If you don't feel air coming out, something is very wrong. Just so all the readers understand how the crankcase ventilation works, when the pistons m...

Re: Sound File - what is making this sound?

This may be a silly question, but, when you had the push rods out, did you roll each one on a piece of glass, to check to see if they were absolutely straight? Once a push rod gets bend in it, (they are only strong when perfectly straight) it will continue to flex and bend. This will make an audible...

Re: De-rusting R25/2 Tank

You will never seal the gas cap, and whatever you put in the tank will get on the paint. If you use your existing cap, and you tank coat the inside, it will plug the vented cap and ruin it, so plan on buying a new gas cap. Here is a trick I figured out many years ago. Get a tub of wheel bearing grea...

Re: 25/3 with 1951 600cc motor

There is NO WAY you could put a twin engine in a single's frame without cutting and splicing to make room.

Whoever is selling this does not know what he is talking about.

Re: Suggestions when buiding a conversion

The question: I love the naked lady valve covers! What's the back story on those Vech? My understanding is that back in the 1970's, A fellow that was a metal casting artist, and rode a R75/5, cast 4 pair of valve covers in Bronze. The ladies on the covers, are not identical. I have one set of them. ...

Re: Starter switch on/5

You may not realize it but both switches are available new, again. I know that for a fact, because I was the one that had them reproduced. I retired and sold Bench Mark Works to MAX BMW and they have them. Because the original switches were hard wired with the harness, I had them produced with screw...

Re: Does this headlight guard look right?

There are TWO versions of the headlight protection ring. One is made for, and fits correctly, the Earles Fork Bikes part number 71 60 9 024 029 There was another one, that was made for the /5 bikes. While it looks the same, at a glance, it is not bent exactly the same and won't fit the earlier bucke...

Re: 1965 R69S handle bar switch controls

You can by the correct rotary style switches, both left and right (and these are not the same as a /5 in appearance) and then order a 32 72 2 072 183 adapter base to go in place of the chrome high/lo switch which will allow you to mount the rotary style switch on the standard clutch perch. The 072 1...
