Regulator output voltage

If your battery is fully charged then it would not need more than 7 volts

If your regulator has a adjustment you could set the output higher

LOL You have a very good memory I copied this from a post you relied to on 9/16 about wiring the new regulator I saved it to my files for my own reference to also upgrade my regulator someday Anyway sounds like your generator is working ok with the old regulator I'm sure the new replacement one will...

Resistor

It goes on the F terminal of the mechanical regulator
The field wire and this is connected together

Their is only 1 wire going to the F terminal of the electronic regulator because the resistor is not used

I would replace both the brushes and springs if not already renewed
