Re: Gen light /6 on at low revs/starting bike

There is no use in reading Voltage at idle to determine if the charging system is working as at proper idle it is not charging and as such, the red light will be on. About 1500rpm or so the light should go out maybe 1000rpm. If it doesn't you have a problem. It is normal for the charge light to come...

Re: getting the background info on the /7 bikes

I have looked at the microfiches for cam shafts for the R90/6 and my 78 R100RS, there are more than one option per bike showing at Max's fiche site. LOL, I guess I will have to go to Snowbum's website and see if I can make out which cam is in my bike. I know that in 79, BMW put the points and advanc...

Re: getting the background info on the /7 bikes

Like Kurt, I am not sure what you mean about the cam? Here is the items of the points and advance system which is replaced by the Wedgetail uint.

All timing is done electronically using a Hall effect trigger instead of points.

Re: getting the background info on the /7 bikes

I installed a Wedgetail ignition into my 78RS, for once the sales hype was true. IF you are going to get rid of points and want to make an almost perfect bike run close to perfection, this is the ignitions system to install. So much like the factory system on later bikes, no wiring or soldering. Tro...

Re: getting the background info on the /7 bikes

Lol Mal, if you can make that, you can make a "ride off stand", it doesn't have to be an exact copy nor of the same material. just functional. Who knows, you might end up with a side line like those guys in AU who started Wedgetail ignitions. St.

Re: getting the background info on the /7 bikes

That is a unit I have never seen before, it sure looks well built. It would be really interesting to hear from someone who installed it on their bike and how it actually works. LOL, it doesn't take much to improve the stock side stands in some cases. The one on my 78 RS is not bad at all for what li...

Re: getting the background info on the /7 bikes

Mal, there were different versions of the Reynolds stand to match different bikes. So for example a stand for my 84 RT won't work on my 78RS. Like any major part if you find one you have to make sure it fits your bike. Some of the ride off stands had a three digit part number stamped on them, which ...

Re: starting a bike after several years in the garage

Kurt covers most of the bases. Maybe I am a bit fussy or picky but I would also drop the gear oils as well. Fork oil most likely will have to be changed and more the point the forks may have to be rebuilt as the bumpers inside the legs tend to dissolve over time. I would also ditch the tires and tub...

Re: getting the background info on the /7 bikes

Hey don't be in a hurry, you have some time left in winter yet to find the right bike, or is your winter such you can ride in relative comfort all year around? My friend outside of Melbourne sent a drone picture of snow on the ground near him. He claims it is the coldest winter on record. Anyway, I ...

Re: getting the background info on the /7 bikes

I can testify to the smoothness of the 750 engine, while I had a one year bike, the R75/7, it was really a R75/6 engine in a one year /7 frame. in 79, the engines were upgraded to 800 and continue to be smooth. LOL, I have 30plus years and 230K plus miles on my 800 so either I am crazy or the engine...
