I can definitely recommend

I can definitely recommend the Technik Museums in Sinsheim and Speyer as well as the Zweirad Museum in Neckarsulm. Will you visit Munich?. Back when BMW Group Classic was Mobile Tradition, I was able to arrange (in advance) a meeting with the vintage motorcycle guys and got a look at the unrestored ...

I have always thought that

I have always thought that R51/71 used the same folded wire clips held on by two small rivets as R5/6 and that the "single hole" clips pictured were for early postwar bikes. I have original Handbuchs in both English and German and there is a photo showing the removal of the rear wheel wher...

You can install a fork from

You can install a fork from an R51-71 onto an R5-6. The forks themselves are very different, however, and there are no common parts.

The e-Bay bike looks like a

The e-Bay bike looks like a for-real triple match bike. R68's comments might be a bit strong, but the Bonham's bike definitely has an incorrectly reproduced head badge and I agree that the engine has been re-stamped, so I would categorize it as a "bitsa". I'm pretty sure I saw the Bohham's...

Here are the "w" factors for

Here are the "w" factors for some of the rear drive ratios you might have (for speedo indication in miles-for metric divide by 1.6): 25/8 = 1.2 26/6 = 1.6 27/7 = 1.44 Speedo face plates can be changed, so what it says may or may not be what you actually have after all these years, which is...

Check your odometer to see if

Check your odometer to see if it is measuring distance correctly. The odometer is directly connected to the drive train. This will tell you if your speedometer has the right "w" (the small number Kurt mentioned which is sort of the speedometer's internal gearing) to correspond to your rear...

That brings back fond

That brings back fond memories! We lived in Europe for a number of years and managed to go every year from 2000 to 2010...usually to both April and October. It made a nice long weekend holiday. My wife had no interest in Veterama, but when she came along, we usually stayed in nearby Heidelberg which...
