Re: starting a 65 R50/2

ALWAYS turn off the gas and let it run awhile before shutting it down. If you learn the “starting procedure” and you have your bike in good order/ state of tune, it will always start the same way……unless something is wrong. I always say when it comes to BMW…. “ it will start in 1-2 kicks, OR 30-50!...

Re: Fuel

I only run non ethanol fuel in all my bikes. I have found that I get better performance and mileage with it. I don’t know if it’s true but I’ll pass along what an outboard engine mechanic told me. He said that the refineries can have up to 3% ethanol in the fuel and still call it non ethanol. It doe...

Re: Birthday gift

Thanks everyone for the kind words. He’s a good kid and I told my wife that should something happen to me, that bike goes to him. If I didn’t enjoy riding it so much myself, I’d give it to him now.

Birthday gift

I’m not a big contributor to the site but I do read the posts every day. Unbeknownst to me while I was on a hunting trip, my wife and middle son wheeled my R50/2 out on our back lawn, photographed it and framed it for my birthday. My son has a soft spot for this bike as it was the bike I taught him ...

Re: Knobby tires for R50..

Cheap and simple and a lot of them. I read somewhere that one WM20 came off the assembly line every 10 minutes in full production. Also that 50 some odd workers were killed when the Luftwaffe bombed the factory during the Blitz.

Re: Knobby tires for R50..

In all honesty , if the US hadn’t entered the war, I don’t know how the Brits could have prevailed if you compare the BSA to the BMW. Not even close.

I put these on a 1944 BSA M20 that I’m working on. Don’t know what they’d look like on a BMW. They were relatively inexpensive at around $60/apiece from Amazon. They’re Duro 3.25 x 19. Hope that helps.

Re: Sporadic miss cold and hot

Pure speculation on what the issue is but I would suggest one solution at a time and road test. Using the shotgun approach may solve the problem but you won’t know how it was resolved.
