I have Wixom hard bags on my

I have Wixom hard bags on my /7 and they look a lot like the Bucos. My bike came with a top box, also Wixom. Here's one on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-Wixom-R50-2-R69US-R60-5-R75-5-Top-Case-Saddlebag-/380247049023 Here's a view from an old magazine ad for the Wixoms: http://w6rec.com/du...

Why do you want to change

Why do you want to change pistons and valves? I would suggest that you call Vech at Benchmark Works to discuss what you need. He can sell you a rider's manual which will tell you how to adjust the valves. Unless you have some working knowledge of BMW valves, etc., it's a little difficult to describe...

According to the big book,

According to the big book, R26 carbs were numbered either 1/26/46, 1/26/52, or 1/26/55. Based upon the basic parameters, I'm wondering if the R27 carb 1/26/68, 1/26/79, and 1/26/83 would work. But you might have to change some of the jets on the R27 to make it work. Other than that, I don't have any...

What does the voltage read

What does the voltage read across the battery terminal with the bike revving to say 2500 RPM? It should be well over 6v, likely in the neighborhood of 7v, but not much higher. The problem could be the brushes are not making good contact with the slip rings on the generator. It could be that the regu...

It's oil that dribbles down

It's oil that dribbles down the lower cylinder bore and finds its way past the rings into the combustion chamber. Especially if the split in the rings have migrated around to be at the bottom. The oil in the sump will be below the lower portion of the engine case opening. Another thing to consider i...

Nope...if you're only

Nope...if you're only changing the gaitors and/or fork seals, it's all done by dropping the sliders from the tubes. The tubes and the clamps remain in place. Some might consider removing the top cap to let the springs come up. It might make things a little easier upon assembly. Another nice things a...

Not really too much to it.

Not really too much to it. Since drums, it might be a little easier. You'll need to drop the sliders...best to do both seals at the same time. You'll also have to drain the fork fluid. Pop the old seals out using something that won't mar the inside edge of the slider. Note how deep the seal is and p...
