Re: Carb float bowl repair

I've played with Muggyweld as well - it's basically a low temperature solder product - and it works surprisingly well! You can build up a repair to bridge a hole or gap. That carb looks great!

Sounds ok to me. The stock batteries were 8Ah, but I've used up to 12Ah with success.

Re: Center Stand Etiquette

I saw that video long ago, and as you say, John, I was amazed when the rider spins the bike on the centerstand foot. That video is pretty interesting to see how things have changed since the 70s. Also, love the "Rockford Files" music at the end!

Re: R26 starts then stops

Your first problem description sounds like a failing coil. Could you have gotten a bad coil or condenser in your replacement parts? Maybe one at a time, swap the old parts back in, to see if something changes.

Re: Center Stand Etiquette

You can move the stand down with the tang, then put your foot on the back of the left centerstand foot. The R90S is well balanced and pops up on the centerstand easily, so you just need to hold the stand enough so that it doesn't swing up before you pull back with the handle.

Re: Star frame

I don't have any pictures, unfortunately, but a friend minorly crashed his RT here and he got it "straight enough" with chains, a come along and a scissors jack, which is what I had laying around. He used a couple posts in my garage to brace against. The photos from TinkertimeJeff are even...

Re: Star frame

It's possible to bend a frame into general position with various leverage tools (big crowbar, length of iron pipe, some chain, a scissors jack, etc.), but it's difficult to get it exactly right. Someone who is really equipped with a massive table and various clamps and bars can make precise bends an...

Re: magneto maintenance & bike checklist- r11 r12

No problem, happy to help. Other than verifying oil, air pressure in tires, that kind of stuff, I don't think there's too much to do. Here are a couple suggestions from my experience riding an R52: If your R11 has the drive shaft brake, I'd look at it before starting off to make sure the lining isn'...

Re: magneto maintenance & bike checklist- r11 r12

You should fill one side (doesn't matter which) with motor oil until it overflows, every 1200 miles / 2000 km or so. I notice you have the front cover off. There should be a cotton wick in that cover that can transfer oil from the oil reservoir down to the gear/bushing on the generator shaft.

Re: Advance timing cable hookup - r11/r12

dBDawg, is your bike an R12 or a chain driven magneto R11? It looks to me like you have a magneto that is set up for gear drive. Your advance cable is mounted on the left side, not on the right side like pkrpkr's magneto. These magnetos are very modular and can run in either direction, and with a va...
