Wow! Great work! You really put a lot into it! Getting the type IIIA is especially a coup.

Re: 1973 R75/5 - electrical issues?

Not sure if you have this, but attached is the wiring diagram. If I understand right, that you have lights, but no start, then it looks to me like the switch the "nail" pushes on is not making contact to allow power to the rest of the system. Look at the 30/51 (power) terminal on the circu...

Re: BMW R51/2 trasmission

I also just noticed you have snap rings on yours. I have never seen that on an original driveshaft. Anyone correct me if I am wrong, but mine are all staked. Yours have been upgraded. Not bad, just not the original ones. I would question if the length is incorrect and might be putting undue pressur...

Re: BMW R51/2 trasmission

Have you greased the U joint (#2 in drawing) under the dome cover (that has left handed threads!) on the nose of the final drive? There's a zirc fitting you can grease with a needle tipped grease gun. If not routinely serviced, it can sieze and fail spectacularly.

Re: Low fuel level

I don't have any specific information about this, but I do recall that the first generation K100s had a reserve light that came on with 4L left in the tank. That's also typical for the later 2 valve boxers* and the oilhead 4 valve boxers. * 4L is typical, but the fuel straws from the petcocks can be...

Re: Seat fitment cross reference

All of the twin shock R65s (and R45s) have a smaller frame than the larger bikes, so I would expect none of the other seats to fit.

Re: Anyone read Russian?

I don't know any Russian (other than da, nyet and nasdrovia), but I can summarize what I understand to be the history: As a part of the infamous nonaggression pact signed by German foreign minister von Ribbentrop and Soviet foreign minister Molotov in 1939, was a section that we would today call a t...
