First breakdown.. had to get towed.

Hey Gang, Welp... had my first BMW breakdown that required a friend to come get me and the bike. This is on the conversion that I recently got running. I've put about 200+ miles on it since then. It's been running great after getting the carb issue sorted. I took it out for about a 20 mile ride, sto...

Re: Engine wants to suffocate when opening throttle

Check your compression again.
Double check your valve adjustments on compression stroke.
Are you getting good spark on both sides?
Correct fuel flow to both carbs?

Re: Weird sync issue..

Just a final update all.. Got the "new to me" 64/32/11 and 64/32/12 carbs all cleaned up. Took it out for a good long ride today.. rides like a dream! Hooked it up to both sync tools.. got it dialed in to perfection. All is well! Thanks again for the suggestions along the way of diagnosing...

Re: Weird sync issue..

So, your crack could mess with mixture. If you have a crack in the needle area, toss em. I don't remember you mentioning if you compared sliders from one set of carbs to the other? Are the butterflies messed up? What gives you the impression they need rebuilt? Are the shafts leaking like one of my ...

Re: Weird sync issue..

Hey Hey Kurt.. I feel like the right carb was working correctly.. one thing that had me puzzled on it was that I had to have the idle/mix screw out 1.25 turns.. at that amount, the whole bike felt rich when giving throttle and having slight pops under load.. but perhaps the left carb was contributin...

Re: Weird sync issue..

I am confused, did you swap the rebuild parts from your original carbs to the other carbs? So from the original one hole to two hole units? I swapped my friends parts over to mine since I knew his were running great... I swapped out each item once at a time. My carbs didn't react any different with...

Re: Weird sync issue..

Thank you guys! Well I tried swapping all the parts from the good carbs to the bad carbs.. each thing one at at time to see if anything would help.. nothing, same problem. But all is well I hope... There's another BMW owner here in town with some extra carbs that he's will to go for cheap. They're t...

Re: Weird sync issue..

I talked to Bing today.. nice people. They said that my carbs are the earlier version and only came with one hole. The later ones came with the two holes for better stability at idle and such so they added the second hole. Also noted is that the earlier carbs had the steel mix screw, later had the b...
