1975 BMW R60/6, starter motor or switch is kaput

My starter failed last weekend. I went to start the bike after filling up the tank at a gas station, and when depressing the starter toggle it simply went "click", and nothing happened. I repeated turning on the ignition several times and the same thing happened, pressing the starter toggl...

1975 BMW R60/6 leaking fuel from right Bing carb fuel line

I am having an ongoing issue with fuel leaking from my right-hand Bing carb. Typically, at starting, I turn on the fuel petcock "on" , both sides, then start the bike, and I see fuel seeping thru the braded lines (saturated), then leaking onto the ground. (it appears that the float is not ...

fuel starved engine at high speeds 4th/5th gears

Thanks for the advice Kurt. I checked the vent and the tank appears to be venting well. I actually tried disconnecting the fuel lines from the carb and running them. the fuel valve screen had gunk in them on both sides. I cleaned them and reconnected. The fuel starvation appears to have gone away. I...

1975 R60/6 fuel delivery issue?, losing power in 4th and 5th gears

On a recent motorcycle ride, as I was upshifting gears to 4th, I was cruising at about 50 mph and 4,000 RPM, then noticed a drop in power, (drop in both engine speed and wheel mph speed). Then it climbed back up, then shifted to 5th gear and again, and as I increased the throttle, the same drop in ...

Checking oil level

Thanks Konrad. I rode the bike about 500 km over the summer, just easy rides once or twice per
week (country roads). However, I will not be lazy anymore re: checking oil level....a dumbass move!

Low engine oil level on 1975 R60/6

Hi, I purchased my R60, this past spring. I was informed by the dealer that the oil was changed and I checked the level at the time and it was good. I discovered just prior to winterizing last week, that the oil level was down at least .5 to .75 of a litre! That's a lot of oil loss/burn. Is there an...

1975 R60/6 winterizing

Hi,

I purchased my 1975 R60/6 this past spring. Can I get a checklist or to do list
of what I need to do to properly prepare the "airhead" for winter storage?

Thank you,
Steve

1975 R60/6 with sticky float

Hi there, I purchased a 1975 R60/6 this past spring. I've thoroughly enjoyed the bike, however, it has this annoying issue with the float in the right carburetor bowl. It appears to stick or jam, and doesn't close off the fuel flow, and after I start the bike, it starts leaking fuel from the supply ...
