Re: R51/3 Throttle Cable Conundrum

You have a "Magura Quick Throttle" on your motorcycle. It was used on BMW racing motorcycles, and on the Zundapp KS601...and is quite desirable. You also have Magura Enduro levers on the bike, sometimes sold as the very desirable Magura racing levers...Here's a picture of that throttle and...

Who has Hans Meier's R68-Zundapp ISDT motorcycle?

I last saw this about 10 years ago, in Pennsylvania. It's unrestored early serial number R68 with the plunger rear cut off, and with a Zundapp KS601EL rear swingarm suspension, final drive, rear fender welded on. It is said to have been made, maybe as a factory prototype or experiment, for Hans Meie...

Re: /2 or not /2?

There is a somwhat logical explanation to their model designations over the years. The "first" of the modern welded frame BMW twins is the '36 R5. The R6 is the '37 600cc counterpart of the R5. The R51 is the plunger frame derivative of the R5, and the R51/2 is the postwar type R51. The &q...

Re: Denfeld vs Pagusa?

I feel for the OP; all the fella wanted to know is what seat to put on his BMW, and now we have gone from the weed field down into the rabbit hole of seat trivia? Anyway Chuck and Vech must have the only vertical spring type early '55 examples of those swingers seats in the world? I once wanted to t...

Re: Denfeld vs Pagusa?

I think you're confusing the chrome extension spring used on ALL the plungers with the rare-as-hens-teeth vertical spring used on a few very early 1955 swingarm twins ie. R69 (Vech, I think you have one of the very few of these I've ever seen?)...but for benefit of OP and to get out of the weeds, ba...

Re: Denfeld vs Pagusa?

I think the PAtent GUmmi SAttle is a little bit better quality, thicker rubber than the Denfeld? A 1955 R69 would likely have used an "SFS" rubber brought to us by Seigen Franke Seigen, but these are no longer reproduced or available. As the other folks have mentioned, plungers get Pagusa,...

Re: Racing a late 1920s twin

Wow! Look how the rear wheel is bouncing all over the place? I heard that when Norton showed up with their plunger frame in '38, the rigid frame R5 was instantly obsolete.

Re: What to do? 1968 R60/2

You have an interesting rig there, thanks for posting the photos. More and closeup photos would let us give better information, but the front end has been set up for SC, and the bike is not original Granada red, has been repainted and pin strip is tape. I'd guess you're not interested in restoring t...

Re: R68 center-stand vs muffler quandary

Perhaps someone has placed R68 R69, R69S heads on your R67/2 (it's a easy modification), but you'll need to match the headers to the type of head used (R68 or R51/3, 50, 60, etc)? Keep in mind that the salami or torpedo muffers using "S" headers were an upgrade required by the German noise...
