Re: Abracadabra: White rubber disk on drive shaft bell disappeared

The small donut departed my R25/2 shaft a number of years ago. I bought a replacement, but haven't gotten around to putting it on...technically, it has to be pressed on once the shaft is disassembled. I decided to try a small plastic ring from a juice container...cut a slit and slipped it over. Prob...

Re: What model is this speedo for ?

Be sure and use the search boxes Snowbum has all over the tech page. I put in "speedometer" and the page in question is the second one in the list.

Re: What model is this speedo for ?

Snowbum's table on this page suggests it's for a R90/6 in the mid 1970s. Should be paired with a 34/11 final drive.

Re: Engine won't shut off

Check out this post by Vech in the recent past: https://vintagebmw.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=84990#p84990 I have had this problem for a while...I have a fairing on so not so easy to get to the headlight shell to check things out. What I do is when I'm close to my driveway and the end of the ride, I ...

Re: R27 Cold Start Nightmare

My R69S seems to be harder to start warm like after a gas stop. What I do is to leave the petcock off and open the throttle wide open. I then kick the lever 5-6 times to clear the combustion chamber. Finally, leaving the petcock off, and hand off the throttle, I push the key down and then kick the s...

Re: final drive / drive shaft

The final drive would need to be properly shimmed if you take it apart. I'd just leave as is and see how it performs. Be sure to clean and lube the wheel splines.

Re: Master cylinder feeler gauge

Snowbum has a pictre of the tool on this page:

https://bmwmotorcycletech.info/brakes.htm

In the end a regular feeler gage can be used. But if you want a perfect tool kit, get the tool. And thanks for the info about finding a replacement tool! :)

Re: Coil question

OK. But for a typical /5, the resistances for the wires/caps are 1K each and each coil is about 20K each. Total around 22K.

Re: Coil question

36k ohms seems high. High resistance will impede current flow, maybe weak spark? Measure resistance of each wire individually. Is there corrosion built up inside the coil towers?

Re: Coil question

What do your coils/wires test for resistance? That would be helpful to know.
