R62 Project: The Beginning

Peter, thanks again for sharing your insights. I'm very interested in your questions... 1) I have no idea, but exactly what you're saying has occured to me. As I learned in the R11 thread, early on in that model they changed away from the two slide BMW carb, which mounts to the back of the bell hous...

R62 Project: The Beginning

Peter, thanks very much for the reply! I guess I am going to need some information regarding the way that the bearing is supposed to be set up. The parts book only shows the entire bearing and and body as one piece, as a side view, and doesn't elaborate about what's inside. Regarding the pistons, I ...

New '66 R69S

If the paintwork is in reasonable original shape, I would be inclined to leave it alone. As they say, it can only be original once! While a new paint job looks great, nobody will duplicate the true look of the original paint job, including the milky pinstripes. Regarding the mechanical work, dependi...

R62 Project: The Beginning

Bruce, I have been looking at the Oldtimer Garage web site ever since Richard Sheckler mentioned to me on the /2 list that they have R12 wheels. I have a pair of those on order (and a pedestrian slicer for the R52). The problem with buying a reproduction frame is that it's not vintage, with a vintag...

R62 Project: The Beginning

Yes, I definitely expect to get this into the Bulletin. I'm sure there will be future topics, too, like searching for a frame and forks... The Spring Veterama is this coming weekend, and I will be in Germany. But I fear I will be spending time on another project and won't be able to get to Ludwigsha...

R69S Finned Exhaust Nut Removal

Herb, there's a much bigger wrench available for removing finned exhaust nuts. It's actually for the Airhead models, but I believe it will work on your R69S, too. The BMW dealers carry them, as well as several of the aftermarket places. Vech has it also: tool 002A--$62.90--spanner wrench heavy-weigh...

Parts

Mark, I think you've already found what there is in the way of pre-50s parts in the US. I've been able to get a few things for my R12 from Vech and Blue Moon, but when push comes to shove, I have to go overseas. Unfortunately, many places over there don't speak English (not really a surprise, but it...

6th Annual, Not Tax Day!, Surf City Tech Day

I haven't had a chance to edit any of the photos from the Surf City Tech Day that my Seattle friend Steve took for me, but at least they are up on the web. It seemed like everyone had a great time, and the weather, which was iffy to the point of raining hard at 8am on Saturday, relented and we had, ...

Wow, what a blast!

I did this a few years back. It was great! Three days of driving and learning the North course, a 21 km long track that rises and falls and throws every possible kind of curve your way, and you will get to know it pretty well by the end. The instructors are good and love what they're doing. http://d...

6th Annual, Not Tax Day!, Surf City Tech Day

Just a reminder that the Surf City Tech Day is coming up on Saturday, and -- knock wood! -- the weather gods seem to be relenting, and the National Weather Service is giving us low rain chances and otherwise warm weather.

Hope to see you on Saturday!
