Re: San Jose fork brace for an ‘83 R100

That fork brace is an older unit, most likely no longer in production.
While resembling a Telefix brace, it is different.

Re: '85 R80 RT won't start

You MAY have one of the "Crack-O-Matic" Coils.
IF, the problem returns, especially when DAMP or WET......something to check.
As I have an older Airhead, I am unsure if the flawed coil is grey or green.

Re: thrust rod broken

In my OPINION, it seems, that when you adjusted the clutch "properly".......The correct and proper FREEPLAY of the clutch/ thrust rod/ bearing, was incorrectly set. IF, too tight, the later /6 and up....bearing (which are extremely thin.....Unlike the earlier 4 speed, which has a substanti...

Re: Pots and pans clanging in forks of '85 R80 RT

Surprised that NO ONE has mentioned the RUBBER BUMPERS, located on the bottom of the fork sliders, that dissolve.
Broken springs, amongst the other suggestions, are spot on.

Re: /5 side panel question

In any event......ALL side covers on the /5 models were Chrome. Only the detail, within the stamping was painted.....FYI EDIT> The Chrome side panels were ONLY offered on the /5 motorcycles WITH the TOASTER TANK. First offered in the 1972 model year. Earlier model /5 years, had NO PROVISION (attachm...

Re: Push rod tube sizes and compatibility

Mid 1976 model year, the cylinder Jug spigots were increased in size from 97mm to 99mm. The newer 1000cc /7 models came out for the 1977 model year. I am unsure exactly when, the pushrod tubes were enlarged.
Thus, you MAY also have a spigot size difference to deal with....

Re: /5 Muffler question

Copper anti seize is good. Factory /5 mufflers, IF still from BMW, will be $$$! I am Unsure, IF the last /5 units....ie: Late 1973 LWB, had different mufflers from the factory. Mine are aftermarket Stainless and have been on my LWB /5 for almost 30 years. Aftermarket mufflers, may or may not have th...

Re: 1977 R100/7, or?

Upon looking a bit closely, at the aforementioned "1977 R100/7"......Whomever, modified the motorcycle from stock, appears to have done quite a decent job. The engine, may or may not, be a 1000cc.....may or may not even be 900cc. It could actually be a 750cc. Anyway, the engine serial numb...

Re: Price R60/5

I agree with most posts mentioned. I do NOT agree that the R60/5 is an undesirable motorcycle, whatsoever. The R50/5 and R60/5, came....stock with BING slide carbs. The R75/5, came with BING diaphram carbs. The R60/5, Requires a PRECISE adjustment/ setting of the TIMING. IF not, PINGING/ PREDETONATI...

Re: R75/5 Alternator / Voltage regulator

ALL rotors, for Airhead motorcycles, should be interchangable.......albeit with varying OHM specs (these will determine WHEN the actual charging begins). The STATOR, increased in size from 105mm to 107mm(?) in mid 1976. As a result, the later /6 and all /7 stators will NOT fit a /5 and early /6. The...
