Plunger pinion sealing

I'm hoping to resolve some oil weepage on the rear of our '53 R51/3. The manual refers to the application of "jointing compound" to prevent oil passage between the pinion spline and the input coupler. What sealants work well here? Sounds like a good application for Hylomar.

Same bike as my other thread but totally different questions. I'm overhauling the final drive on our /3. On disassembly I found that there was no pinion depth shim (item 45 in the parts book, shim for setting base distance). What are the chances that the shimming was ever considered correct without ...

An issue occured here regarding repro license plates.
While the WH military style is commonly reproduced
and covered by layout and stamps, civilian LP repros
seem to be the exception. Still missing are good details
on the seals in use. Somebody with some input?
