Del Ortos Leaning out on Curves

On my 1975 R-90S, the Del Ortos seem to lean almost bog a bit on curves. This may just be when the engine is not at fully warmed up or hot from a long run. Particularly noticeable on first few hard curvy turns.... Does not occur with a 77 R-100S with 40 mm Bings. Has anyone else encountered this pro...

R-51/2 Engine

There are some small differences. Same dual chain-driven camshafts. Check with Richard Sheckler-who has had both pre-war and post-war R-51s and knows their intimate mechanical details. Crank pins and spacers. His email is: rishelaverne@hotmail.com

Conway Link, in the March, 92 issue of Deutsches Motorrad Register-gives a detailed description of the early plunger frame headlamp shells and tail lights. R-90 S Chrome Headlamp ring

The headlamp chrome ring on many /6 bikes does not have the tightening /retaining screw located at 6 o'clock on the headlamp shell. My 1975 SS R-90 S falls in this category. Robert Fleischer recommends eventually affixing a a screw-type retention or somesuch to prevent loss of the ring. I am having ...

Temp plate

Peter: A printed same size-just purchased sign usually will work. Better is a dealer's tag-if you can get a Harley/Honda dealer to loan you one. But-for sure carry ALL your purchase paperwork-special attention to having insurance documentation. FAX or e-mail your INS card. Usually the age on your R-...

Valve adjustments /R-51/3

I just finished this year restoring a 1951 R-51/3 with engine-transmission-final drive that had been completely refurbished/like new/ by Craig Vechorik-10 years ago. Craig did an excellent job. During the break-in period, a rocker arm snapped. Craig gave us another he had handy -and we replaced it w...

1962 R-69S Kick start segment gear

With my R-69S- attended the recent RA vintage portion at barbers Motorsport-parked next to me was a 1967 R-60. Both my R-69S and his R-60 had similar symptoms. Vech and John Landstrom were under the tent-Vech examined my bike and pronounced the same verdict. The segment gear with a worn or broken to...

Ethanol -gas additives

From SeaFoam to Lucas products, and lead-the jury is still out on additives. But the results are plain as to the effects of ethanol: hydroscopic-which attracts and holds H20-; necessity of special floats in carbs; gas line problems; instability over time in tanks; less efficient fuel for mileage. If...
