I hadn't thought about swapping. You could try something like JBWeld to fill the hole in a bit? It might be hard enough to last for a good while.

Never heard that before. Typically, one removes the spark plug and use something like a chopstick in the hole. Then slowly turning the engine, find the spot in the rotation where the chopstick comes out the farthest. Observe the timing marks through the inspection hole. You can tell if you're on the...

The 1.44 number on the dial would indicate that it is to be mated with an R60 and sidecar...the rear drive would be 27:7.

My R69S has a trip meter. It turns in order to return the numbers to 000. I don't remember which way it turns, though.

I've used those in-place greasers before...they shouldn't really change the preload on the bearings.

Welcome to the forum! So, you've owned this bike since 2000 and this is the first issue like this? The bearing preload typically doesn't just change on its own. So you did some lubrication and now it doesn't turn? That's where I'd probably look first.
