Are these main bearings for the crankshaft?

I have heard that the metal carriers that retain the balls can disintergrate and make a mess of your engine. Always best to pay the extra money and get the brass retainers. Some savings don't seem like a good idea..... metal reatiners for these old crank bearings being one. The problem occurs becaus...

two iterations of the flattened section

I have seen three sets of Earles Forks. 1. Round section 2. Slightly flattened section (which are the forks illustrated) 3. Significantly flattened. I assume the last ones were the last iteration but only because the flatteneing was even more extreme. Happy to be proven wrong, after all I am a man a...

Elegant work by Jan

In the posted link Jan removes the fly wheel so beautifully..... But that is not an engine that hasnt been touched for 50 years - so in some ways it could be misleading. Its not even the original clutch or flywheel....... I had a flywheel puller at some stage in the past which bolted onto the flywhe...

Its about the clearance

Yes they look nice and clean and that is promising - no obvious scoring for instance.

However it is about the clerance - if the wear is well beyound the factory tolerances - then it will rapidly burn oil, foul up and not be happy.

Just measure it up so you know where you stand.

R69s guides larger than R60 guides

Not sure if R60/R50's had different sized guides but I am sure that the R69s had larger diameter guides.

Dr Who style machine?

I like the look of their machine for doing the job. Like something out of Dr Who - maybe an enslaved Darlek.

$45 - sounds pretty good value.

I would guess

I would guess most wheel bearings, car, bike trailer etc - fail because they run dry or get water past the seals and rust up - I guess there are other possibilities - but really. So if your bearing are not out of adjustment and have an adequate supply of the correct lubricant - why disturb them furt...

the video probe

I have seen that sometimes a small patch of carbon can build up on the crown of the piston - which acts like a glow plug when the ignition is cut. A small video probe could look through the plug hole with the piston at bottom dead centre and confirm or deny this possibility. Just a thought for what ...

About time a /2 Channel on Youtube

Well done team.

It obviously takes a lot of work to make a really good youtube clip. For your opening offering you have done really well in my opinion.

Keep up the good work. I look forward to further episodes.
