I wouldn't think the bike is

I wouldn't think the bike is that rare...maybe well cared for. The '77 RS is probably the best of the lot having the most HP of the bikes before the EPA got a hold of it and made changes to the timing. I can't think of anything very special about the '79s. I would think that maybe $5-7K is what the ...

Is it a bolt or just a nut on

Is it a bolt or just a nut on a stud? I think it is the latter. I would try every kind of penetrating fluid - top of the list is Aerokroil and PB Blaster; I've heard that ATF and Acetone is way better than those. I'd also consider something that breaks down the rust, maybe an OTC product called Rust...

I wouldn't think that

I wouldn't think that shipping is that big of a deal...maybe if there was insurance. I shipped to wheels from my R25/2 to Vech for like $60. It was UPS. You could contact these places and get their recommendations. Tom Cutter may even send you a frame/box to put the tranny in on the return. But I un...

Anji - You should visit Duane

Anji - You should visit Duane Ausherman's website: http://w6rec.com/duane/bmw/index.htm His is about as good as it gets for providing details on repairing the /2 bikes. I used his page on wheel bearings to overhaul the bearings on my R69S. http://w6rec.com/duane/bmw/wheel_bearing/index.htm What you'...

Re: Joe Taffuri -- He's on a list of "Airhead friendly" shops, so someone has heard of him and thought well enough of his services. I don't know anything about shops in Florida. Re: Overhauling a transmission -- I would never tackle something like that. There's too much critical measuremen...

Never heard of Joel Levine in

Never heard of Joel Levine in regards to speedos. My R69S speedo does not have an o-ring...I've heard people will use a well-placed dab of non-setting silicone (or something like that) around the stem and then clean/replace from time to time. There is a search box in the upper left of the screen. I ...

Generally, the '81-on

Generally, the '81-on trannies won't work in anything prior to that. Well, with a lot of changes they'd work. I'd see about getting the original fixed and selling the '85 box to recoup some costs. There are several good people who can overhaul the older one. You're probably aware of Airhead friendly...

Why not just take the oil pan

Why not just take the oil pan off? You should do that anyway just to clean up the sludge and gunk. You'll need a new gasket (no sealant on it) and be mindful of the torque on the oil pan bolts...I don't use a torque wrench, just one of those nut drivers...it's easier to control the torque and a litt...

I don't think you want to

I don't think you want to make the thing cherry red or anything. I'd try to get it spit sizzle hot or maybe get one of the those infrared thermometers and check...200-225 is what I'd shoot for.
