if it uses GM points that allow adjusting while the engine is running using a small allen tool on a flex shaft there are several condensers available for those point sets, that will indeed screw right in place, and they are available in a wide range or actual capacitance some of the points sets even...

straight forward requires an oscope, signal generator, and then an inductance meter makes it all handy however, back when I was a line wrench when points ignition still existed GM still had a box which would measure the coil and give a readout as to how many micro farads needed to be on the condenso...

one other observation regarding using just 'any ol capacitor/condenser' this particular circuit consists of inductance, capacitance, and resistance for kicks and grins will refer to it as an LCR circuit for it to work properly this circuit has to be balanced if it is not you will have metal transfer...

they will work good and last a long time on just about any modern lubricant and that is certainly within reason when you consider the superiority of most any modern engine/trans/drivetrain lubricant compared what we would today regard as poorly refined sludge.......... aka engine oil of 60 years ago...
