Re: Shorting front cover / I'm embarassed

First I'd take the cover off and see if it will start. Concern over the front cover removal is a real issue on the /5-on bikes as I believe there are circuits that are live on those bikes. It's been said to do the same thing on a /2 but I'm not so convinced that the issue is as concerning on them. I...

Re: Another /6 Electrical Question

I'd start with something simple like the parking light. It has two wires to the bulb socket - ground and power. As for power, following the wire back gets me to the fuse in the headlight shell. Fuse good? If so, then do you have power on the one side of the fuse? If not, then you have to find out wh...

Re: R51/2 Adjusting the valves

observe when a pair of rockers are moving (both rocking, between exhaust and intake strokes). I'm not sure I understand what I would be seeing in this situation. "Moving"? One thing that should be remembered is that if the valve clearances are significantly off when looking for TDC or the...

Re: Carburetor slide worn from idle screw

I hadn't thought about swapping. You could try something like JBWeld to fill the hole in a bit? It might be hard enough to last for a good while.

Re: R51/2 Adjusting the valves

Never heard that before. Typically, one removes the spark plug and use something like a chopstick in the hole. Then slowly turning the engine, find the spot in the rotation where the chopstick comes out the farthest. Observe the timing marks through the inspection hole. You can tell if you're on the...

Re: Trip Meter won't reset

The 1.44 number on the dial would indicate that it is to be mated with an R60 and sidecar...the rear drive would be 27:7.

Re: Trip Meter won't reset

My R69S has a trip meter. It turns in order to return the numbers to 000. I don't remember which way it turns, though.
