Re: What holds the plug wire in the coil on a R27

I swapped coils from the original to a new one last year and they are very different. The original wire was screwed or pushed onto a spike connection inside the coil, secured with a screw-on cap. The new one has a metal cap on the wire, pressed into the coil, held right with the boot. PXL_20210607_0...

Re: Quick wiring questions, front brake light switch

Thanks Tommy and James, great to learn new things. It looks like I'm safe and then some using 16 gauge.

Quick wiring questions, front brake light switch

Is 16 gauge wire OK to use for a front brake light switch, running 6v to an LED tail/brake light? Fortunately my bike has a later handlebar perch with the threaded hole for the switch, and the proper switch is readily available. I have 16 gauge on hand, but I've read that the 6v bikes preferred 14 o...

Re: Drain Plug Crush Washers: Copper or Aluminum

Whenever I order parts I add in a few, always rolled copper. They're less than a dollar each, and now I must have two dozen. Seeing them sitting there encourages me to change the oil, so simple on these bikes.

Hi Patrick-
Yes, that was Ginni and I ...
Anything you can come up with will be appreciated. I have the article about done and will let them know other photos may follow in the next week or two. I made a point not to take many photos, now I'm kicking myself.

Re: Ride report, R27 on a Motogiro

George - were you on the R69 sidecar rig? If so I'd like to get some photos from you. VBMWO may include a rework of my ride report in the next magazine, and I'd love to show a few of the other BMWs there. By my count there were five R27s (three entries plus Will P's two) and two sidecar rigs, yours ...

Ride report, R27 on a Motogiro

I rode the spring Motogiro USA in Tennessee and North Carolina this past weekend on my R27. It was a real coming-out party for the bike, which had been recommissioned last year after sitting for nearly 40 years. The main refresh was done by a pro shop, and it took me about six months after that to w...

Re: New VBMWMO Store Manager

It's probably time to plan for next year as well ... Maybe a line of a century of motorrad excellence. I don't know if BMW is planning anything since they did corporate 100th anniversary models in 2016, but I think most motorcycle owners consider 1923 the real birth year.

Re: R50/2 Generator low volts

Fortunately it was easier that I thought. The new springs, new brushes combo was showing lots of arcing and the generator light would come back on at higher RPMs. So I switched back to the old brushes, with new springs, and all is good. Everything in there looks buttery smooth, no sparks/arcing, gen...

Re: R50/2 Generator low volts

I'm glad I found this thread! VBMWMO is invaluable for a guy like me trying to keep an old bike going. Thanks to this thread and another one that James Wonder started about his R50S charging issue, I narrowed a charging problem I'm having on my R27 down to the brushes floating when revving. I have n...
