Re: Speedo/Horn Rebuild

Not a Klaxon, but rebuilding of a Bosch horn was written in the Fall 2010 issue of the Vintage BMW Bulletin.

Re: Idle jet

Before trying to remove it, be sure and soak for a long time with shots of a penetrant such as AeroKroil.

Re: Idle jet

I think a drill is going to be too aggressive to the brass jets. Get some guitar strings and find the one that fits the best and just push through.

Seems to me that with the flex combined with the offset conrod power pulses, the flex becomes a torsional type of motion back at the front. At least it seems to me.

Re: '68 R69s base gasket ??

I seem to recall the issue with the crank vibration was that the main bearings were far enough apart that the unsupported portion of the crank could flex. But it seems that really only happened and created a problem when run at or near max RPM.

Re: 1969 R69S Advice to a new comer

So last time it ran was 1988? Looks like the last registration was 1978/1979. Hmmm....

I agree it's easily worth the $4K, so you might not lose in the end if you decide to resell it. Some custom things such as seats. Nice add-on with the guard around the rear tail light.

Re: '68 R69s base gasket ??

Something for consideration... On my /7, I replaced the original top end with a kit from Siebenrock. The stock compression went up from around 9.0:1 to about 9.5:1 with the kit. I was a little uncomfortable with that high of a compression ratio...I didn't want to consider dual plugging, etc. The sup...

Re: 1965 R50/2 - run-in advice wanted

If your pan is steel, the magnets will simply latch on to the pan. As for Kieth Patchett's suggestions, I personally would not do the ride keeping the engine at 5000 RPM...or whatever RPM you wanted. The engine and components are all very mechanical and they will have vibration interactions with eac...

Re: 1965 R50/2 - run-in advice wanted

I don't think the strainer is going to get all that clogged. I don't remember but I guess I pulled the pan off at least once, maybe at 500 miles. I would fit a number of super magnets in the bottom of the pan to collect any of the ferrous bits that show up.
