Re: 1960 R69 Advance Stuck on Shaft

I just happened to have the exact same issue. Advance totally stuck on the shaft. I managed to lever it off with two big screwdrivers and some blocks of wood. And indeed, instead of one slot I had two. The second one being very shallow and obviously pressed in by some hamfisted joker who doesn't kn...

Re: R60/2 kickstart locks at top of stroke

George, I'll second that. Great post there! Your write up provides a better understanding of what's going on inside the gearbox during the starting sequence and a few thoughts on how to avoid this unnecessary damage. I've encountered this a few times and have had to replace the kicker segment on my ...

Re: 1960 R69 Advance Stuck on Shaft

Thinking more. If you do have a burr on the end and you can't easily pry it off, which is unlikely. I'm afraid the only good solution is to dismantle your advancer. This will allow you to remove the front plate which will expose the nose of the mag rotor and you'll be face to face with the source of...

Re: 1960 R69 Advance Stuck on Shaft

Are you familiar with the nose of the mag rotor? The nose is keyed as is the advancer. It is actually somewhat tricky to line up the keys and then tighten the advancer without it moving. I find that once I get them keyed, I press on the face of the advancer to hold it into the key while I tighten th...

Re: R60/2 kickstart locks at top of stroke

Trig, I’d like to see a photo of your “new” kicker gear. My rudimentary understand is that the spring steel on the end needs to protrude above the first tooth for a very specific purpose. It catches the idler gear and spins it into the proper position to engage properly for the down stroke. If it ha...

Re: 1967 R69S rough running between 40 - 55mph

15Mph seems like a broad rough patch. Have your wheels been verified as straight and true? Particularly the front. Does it matter what great you’re in? Are you silent blocs original up front?

Well that was a shift in direction… but whatever floats your boat.

Re: R26 cruising speed

That sounds miserable on an R26 or R27 but the R51/3 sounds like a terrific choice. If it were me, I'd take that bike again this year! Why mess with success?

So what is the Nest Chase? I'd love to hear more about it.
