I’m currently facing this same issue with my R80GS. I installed new pushrod tube rubbers from Euro Motor Electrics last winter and with only 1000 miles on the rebuild I see they’re already cracking. They haven’t started leaking yet but it’s only a matter of time. What a bummer.

You’re using the wrong plugs. I can’t recall exactly but from NGK they should be something like B8HS.

Proper technique can result in smooth, slippery shifting in well built transmissions. As others have mentioned, preloading the shifter is essential and while many say you need to pull the clutch and allow the rpms to drop significantly for smooth shifting, I have not found this to be the best practi...

I’ll second Vech’s suggestion. This is very very common on these old carbs. Always remember that pot metal is soft and these old carb bodies need to be handled gently.

Don’t do it. These bikes behave better with 3.50x18 on the front and rear regardless of model or year.
