Re: R60us pinstriping on fenders

If you search Google Images for 'BMW R60US' you will see a jillion pictures, not one of which shows the pinstripes terminating at the bottom of the fender as yours does. Your rear fender in particular looks to me like it has been bobbed. A previous owner must have thought it looked better that way. ...

Re: Davida Helmets

I bought my first BMW in 1967 and almost immediately replaced the (awful) bench seat with a tractor-type saddle. Almost everyone I rode with did the same. As I recall, mine was a Bates model, later replaced with one from a Harley (which I still have but recently replaced with a Corbin). I bought a f...

Re: Help ID this Bike

If you look closely, that bike is in pretty darned good shape cosmetically, The engine casing is clean and under the dust the paint looks very solid. It doesn't look like it's had hard use or abuse. It may very well not be a money pit. My bike looked about the same when I took it on. It had sat for ...

Re: Help ID this Bike

The flat spot on the fork is not there, and though it's hard to tell in the picture, it looks like there is no R69S badge on the rear fender. Could it be a late R69 rather than an early R69S?

Re: Handlebar risers

It's been at least fifteen years since I installed my bars, but here is my memory of what I did: I put a big nut on the mounting post and clamped the riser in the vise. Then I used a long, heavy, flat-bladed screw driver to spread the riser, a small tweak at a time until it was wide enough to accept...

Re: Handlebar risers

I managed to spread the risers very carefully (without heat) without damaging the chrome. I was advised not to try this with stainless risers.

Re: How do I make my solo saddle look new again ?

I use Rubber Care, a spray-on treatment that I use for all the rubber parts on two cars and two motorcycles. It keeps the rubber supple and I haven't noticed any slipperiness. You could also try Zymol, which is also very good but more expensive.

Re: Slinger service cost

I took my engine to Ted Porter in Santa Cruz for slinger service when it had under 60,000 miles. It's been a while, but I think it was around $2500, and that included some serious head work and new seals in the transmission. I also think the quotation from Max is on the high side. The $4000 is proba...
