Re: 1959 BMW R50 Top Speed

I have a '55 R50 which I hope to have complete by next season (not ridden yet). It has 35:11 gearing. Does anyone have observations on riding an R50 with my ratio?

Re: R50S Restoration

Scott, we met in 2018 when I rode over to Oak Bay with some parts for you. I am building a 1955 R50. While I do not possess your technical knowledge I am having Shail's build my bottom end. Top end has been thru the machinist, and there are new SS rotating valves, new guides, etc. I am doing as much...

Scott, we met in 2018 when I rode over to Oak Bay with some parts for you. I have little technical knowledge so I am having Shail's build the bottom end of my R50. Yes, a 1955 model. I'd love to see pictures of your build as it progresses! I am a member of the /2 FB group, so you can look for me the...

Re: R50 Running with battery disconnected

Good info, Vech and dougthat doug! I had read that the electronic voltage regulator resulted in lighting bein somewhat brighter. Is this the case? I ran my R60/2 (since sold) with all stock electrics, and the headlight would dim at idle. I have purchased a 6V H4 headlight bulb. Still considering ele...

Re: R50 rear axle installation

/5 axle: 29.4 cm. as opposed to 31cm. I ordered the correct one (stainless) from Capital Cycle, but will get an old one for when I am working on it, as Barrington manual suggests.

Thank you!

R50 rear axle installation

Despite having removed and re-installed rear wheels numerous times on my R60/2 and R60/6 I am stumped with my R50 rear axle! Part of the problem is that it has been disassembled down to the frame for nearly 10 years. I sold my R60/2 in 2015, so I can't do comparisons. Upon inserting the rear axle sp...

Re: torquing driveshaft bell on R50

Thank you James!

Do you use anything to protect the shaft fom the pipe wrench jaws?

I am going to go to my garage today and install the driveshaft in the swingarm (already mounted on the frame).
