I would disconnect

The battery of course as you said , empty the gas tank as fuel becomes like water after some time, keep it in neutral , and jack it on the center stand.

Why they sell it?

Strange.. If that's the case how come parts shop sell it as a replacement?
I'm sure they know it can't be fitted.

I'm doing a big job on my bike and would like to replace the black cover
But I can't figure out how to take them out
What am I missing ?
