Gas tanks from India

I've noticed that a large number of BMW gas tanks, including the 6 gal sport version, have turned up on eBay recently--at a fraction of the cost of surviving original tanks. Does anyone here know anything about the quality of these repops? (I have a good original and am not shopping, but I am curiou...

Re: Mechanic in Pasadena, CA for 1959 R69 BMW

I live in Altadena, which is adjacent to Pasadena. I don't know anyone near Pasadena who works on old BMWs, but there are several large BMW motorcycle dealerships in the larger area, including BMW Motorcycles of Burbank, Brown Motor Works in Pomona, and Irv Seaver in Orange. I have relied on Seaver ...

Good value, or...?

Someone just paid over $7000 for this disassembled R50/2 (ebay link below). It has some reconditioned parts, but even assuming it's all there, that price strikes me as excessive, The numbers shown in the photos seem to match, although at one point the listing says that the engine and frame are a mis...

Re: A question about spark plugs

On most spark plugs, and certainly on the NGK, Beru, and Bosch versions, that metal tip simply screws off and reveals the threaded post underneath. The Champions are different. The metal tip requires some effort to take it off, and when you do that, you'll find that it has an embedded screw in it th...

Re: help

In my experience, the oil that escapes from the breather can create a film of oil on the underside of the bike and a few drips in the garage, but it happens mostly when the bike is underway. Is it likely that it would produce that BIG puddle of oil shown in one of the pictures? Even the Nortons and ...

Re: A question about spark plugs

In searching for a suitable plug for my R69S with R69 pistons, here is what I learned from NGK: 1. B9HS-10 (3626), my first choice, has been superseded to a resistor plug, BR9HS-10 (4551). The non-resistor 3626 is still around but not easy to find. I ordered a set from Harvard Marine through Amazon,...

Re: A question about spark plugs

Sorry, I’ve caused some confusion. Looking for information on NGK plugs, I went to ngk.com, and there I read that the B9HS-10 (3626) was discontinued, with the recommendation of part number 4551 as an alternative. Relying on that advice, I ordered and received two of those from Amazon and when they ...

Re: A question about spark plugs

It is the NGK website that lists the B9HS(3626) plug as discontinued. They are still available in several places, including Amazon and eBay, with prices that are all over the place. I'll have the replacement 4551 tomorrow and will report on how it works out.

A question about spark plugs

Several years ago, Vech recommended NGK B9HS-10 (3626) spark plugs for the R69S. NGK has discontinued this plug and now advises replacement with B9HS-10 (4551). I'm about to place an order and wonder, what plugs do others on the list use? On a related topic, Vech also argues that, once flooded, a sp...
